We decided to kick our brand new WV Top 3 series off with one of our all-time favorite places to go, Stonewall Resort State Park.  While there are MANY fantastic things to enjoy at this park. Here are the three that we feel are “can’t miss” attractions: Hike Hevener’s Orchard Trail, Enjoy the beautiful Stonewall Jackson Lake, and Dine at TJ Muskies.

Hike Hevener’s Orchard Trail

Hike Hevener's Orchard Trail
Don’t miss the beautiful and peaceful views while you Hike Hevener’s Orchard Trail

Ahh, the first trail Chris and I ever hiked together! This trail starts near the Welcome Center at the resort entrance and makes a gradual ascent about 200 feet, where it meanders through meadows before its descent. The meadow is an excellent location for viewing wildflowers and a variety of wildlife. The trail itself is just over 3.2 miles, and it’s a relatively gentle climb if you pace yourself.  We’ve heard there is a shuttle service back to your vehicle, but we’ve never taken it. Instead, we walk the road and part of the Lake View Trail to complete the loop making it just over 5 miles.

Enjoy Stonewall Jackson Lake

Enjoy Stonewall Jackson Lake
Anyone can enjoy the beautiful views of Stonewall Jackson Lake!

If you do nothing else on your trip to Stonewall, be SURE to check out the lake!  There are a ton of options to get out onto the lake and have a blast: boat rentals, peddle boats, kayak/canoe/paddle boards, and fishing. If you’re feeling up to it, there’s a Lakeside Trail that loops around one of the lake’s coves at just about 3.2 miles.  If you’re not feeling up to that, you can adventure down to the curved bridge. The bridge spans over the water to the campgrounds and is the perfect photo op!

Dine at TJ Muskies

Dine at TJ Muskies
Sit down and have a bite at TJ Muskies restaurant!

No WV Top 3 post is complete without some form of food!  Stonewall Resort boasts three remarkable dining experiences: Stillwaters – the resort’s signature restaurant, Lightburn’s – overlooking the Arnold Palmer golf course, and (our favorite) TJ Muskies Lounge.  While the other two restaurants are lovely upscale dining experiences that we also love, TJ’s offers a more relaxed and laid-back atmosphere.  It has a beautiful view of the patio and lake, live music every Saturday night, and each night at dusk they light a relaxing fire for patrons to enjoy. Take the time to dine at TJ Muskies; we promise you won’t regret it!

We hope that you’ve enjoyed our first WV Top 3 post, we sure enjoyed the experience and reliving it through writing this post for you.
